Operation of the future integrated building simulation and optimization tool

Operation of the future integrated building simulation and optimization tool

Buildings are responsible for 40% of the primary energy consumption in the European Union. That is one of the causes why optimization tools for optimized building performance have to be developed. The simulation and visualization of a building’s energy consumption helps to increase the energy savings that can be reached.

The Institute of Computer Technology cooperates with the Austrian Institute for Technology to refine the possibilities and tools for simulating and visualizing the energy consummation of buildings. The diploma thesis will include the investigation of interactions between simulations and real-world implementations. With this hardware-in-the-loop approach real-world HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning)-Systems and their reaction on stimuli from the in- and outside can be analyzed and tested. Some of the questions that should be answered are:

• Which benefits can be achieved?
• What is the best way to implement optimized control strategies?
• How well the different approaches do work?
